Strange Happenings In and Surrounding Indianapolis

Lately, on my drives to work or to the mall, I've noticed a few strange things happening. For example, one morning on my way to work, I noticed a gentleman in a red convertible moving around his car as if struggling to get comfortable. It turns out, he was reaching down to put on his socks. Wonder what I'll spot next???

  • Today's strange sightings include items that I'm guessing are from a move that went astray. These items include a mattress, pillows, part of a grill, and some type of kitchen appliance. These "misplaced" items were left on 465 near Keystone at the Crossing.

    Drive carefully!!!

  • Yesterday, while traveling home on the busy side streets of the far-north side of Indianapolis I saw a car, not an SUV, but a car, veer into a field, and cross it instead of waiting their turn at a very busy 4-way stop. LOL OUTSTANDING!!!!

  • Yesterday, 8/14/04, Just as I was about to enter one of my favorite stores, I saw a person suspected of shoplifting be wrestled to the ground by two security guards. At first, the guards took the persons arm as they set off the security alarm, but suspect didn't want to go easily, and tried to run away. This prompted the wrestling to the ground and subsequent tying of hands behind the back.

  • Over the weekend (9/4/04), I saw a person mowing their lawn using a riding mower, while at the same time towing another mower that was offset to the right. I can't decide if this is a good idea, as it creates a large mowing path, or if it's just to dangerous.

  • Saturday (8/27/04) on my way to spin class, I noticed a VERY handsome guy riding his bike. He was in great shape, looked incredible in his little bike shorts, and I couldn't help think "WOW" he's gorgeous.......until he pulled up his shirttail and blew his nose in his shirt.

  • Today (10/7/04) on the drive into work, I saw a Blue PowerRanger. That's right...zipping along on 465, I saw a guy clad in a blue motorcycle outfit and helmet. He looked just like the Blue PowerRanger.

  • Today - 12/15, I saw a car being driving on what remained of his spare tire. This was on I-65, traveling 65+ mph. Sparks were flying, smoke was flowing.

I looked around for police cars, thinking this was one of those chase sequences on television. But, there were no police cars chasing the drive. Apparently, he didn't notice the smoke, sparks, or traffic moving away from him.

  • Yesterday (6/9) on the drive home from work, I spotted a police car pulling over a "former" police car. I'm not sure why, but this struck me as very funny!

(By former police car, I mean a "decommissioned" police car that still has the paint job and the spotlight of a real police car).

Wonder what the owner of the former police car was thinking....

  • 8/18/05. As I child, I dreaded the annual trimming of the evergreen bushes that surrounded our house. Each year we'd get out the electric trimmer and trim up the shrubs. Not a difficult task, but not something to look forward too.

Last night on the drive home from work, I saw a guy trimming his evergreen bushes with a CHAINSAW!!! Wow.. I wish I'd have thought of that. Much quicker and more powerful!

  • 11/19/05 - While out doing some shopping at a favorite retailer, I noticed a guy doing some shopping with an iguana on his shoulder. Yes, I'm talking IN THE STORE. Upon closer inspection, I found that it was a plastic iguana. Whew...

  • Yesterday (2/27/06)I was driving home from work. I was stopped at a light near a local grocery story and happened to notice a guy sitting backwards on his bike handlebars. He was peddling around backwards with the greatest of ease. I found myself mesmerized. What makes a person decide to jump on their bike handlebars and start peddling backwards?

  • 2/28/06 - On my way home from work, I spotted the same guy riding his bicycle backwards while sitting on his handlebars in the same grocery store parking lot. I'm perplexed...

  • Yesterday (3/30) was a beautiful day. After I got home from work, I got the bike out for my second ride of the spring. Naturally, many bike routes are main roads, so I'm used to dealing with some traffic. I wasn't expecting to have a loud horn blarred at me by a gas-guzzling red SUV. My "sharing the road" apparently annoyed her so much, she found it neccessary to honk. Luckily, I knew that as she zoomed by me, I'd have the opportunity to pass her at a very busy 4 way stop just up the road. As I passed her, I made sure to say "Hey, how ya doing" and politely wave. She didn't seem to enjoy my neighborly welcome. :-)

  • I saw a guy walking down Illinois Street after we had lunch at India Garden. He was walking a dog (about 20 lbs) on a leash, carrying another dog that was probably 7-8 lbs, and had a full size, full color parrot on his shoulder. He was getting a few looks.

  • Today (5/25/06) on the drive into work, I noticed a car that looked like a car my friend Julie used to have. That isn't the interesting part of this post.

What IS interesting, is that the driver of the car, a guy in his mid 50's, was driving and playing a harmonica. I had to roll down my window to hear him playing, because I couldn't believe what I was seeing!!

  • 5/30/06 - This morning on my way to work, I noticed two girls riding their bikes to work. They were smiling, chatting and pedaling along. Oh wait.. that was us!!!

You read it here first... Jodie and I rode our bikes to work today. :-)
